A lot of people are highly concerned these days about accepting payment for holistic services. Is it ethical to do so? How much should one charge?
I specifically want to blog about my beliefs on Reiki. This is brought on mainly because I am taking a class this coming Tuesday to become more proficient and hopefully add some ideas to my Reiki teaching style. We also will recieve attunements and deep instruction into the Reiki system.
I am preparing for this workshop as if I have never had my attunements before. I am working so thoroughly because I believe this will be a turning point in my Reiki career. I have always used Reiki in therapy, but never taught it in a stand-alone course. I now strive to teach the system to others as a possible introduction to energy healing practices in general.
I am in the middle of a diet change and Monday will be a full fast. I have to work (obviously), but I have set times to meditate throughout the day. I am using this blog post to work through the payment issue since it is becoming a hindrance in my meditative state. Too many questions.
Basically, my belief on getting paid for services is as follows:
Everyone should be able to know the basics as to how to heal themselves at no cost
Everyone should pay to receive healing if they refuse to learn the basics
Everyone should pay to dig deep to be able to heal others in a specific art
Everyone should pay to become able to teach others the healing art
This breaks down my beliefs on the matter. There seem to be 4 levels of using healing techniques... Three of which should be paid for.
Now, where draw the line in Reiki?
Free:
The first and second levels of Reiki attunements should be free and available for all at no cost (or AT cost in the case of all day events with lunches or whatnot) Everyone should be able to get a basic outline of how the symbols for the first two levels work and should be able to proficiently use them on/for themselves.
Everything beyond this is knowledge that should be paid for.
Doctors pay to go to school and then have their patients pay them - why should it be any different in the holistic community?
Teaching the art should be shown the highest level of respect and honor. In the original tradition, the master level attunement was worth $10,000. The idea behind this amount being that being a master is something that very few people should be allowed to have. Very few people will have the fortitude to save ten thousand dollars up for such an honor as "Master." It is an insult to hand out such valued knowledge for free - people will take it for granted.
Therefore, I shall from here on out charge for my Advanced and Master level attunements. Anyone interested in my free first and/or second level Reiki attunements should contact me at my email: idoneanordis@gmail.com. I will provide free tutoring on the two levels and upon completion you are eligible for higher training at a discounted price.
So, I suppose that is all I really have to say on that subject. Anticlimactic, yes? I would love to hear others' opinions on the matter. I've never had the opportunity to really discuss this in length with others, and I'd love to hear from my readers on the matter!
Thanks all~
